Terms and conditions of use

Given the importance of the material digitised, and the fact that our digitised collections include materials that are significant to particular professional communities and groups, we ask that any use of the collections be undertaken with appropriate care. Irrespective of its copyright status, items and/or collections should not be altered or used in ways that might be derogatory to the individuals or communities concerned.

Copyright Licenses

All the digitized materials in the PAHA collection are under copyright, unless explicitly stated otherwise. Different types of media are covered under different copyrights, depending on the nature of material such as format, age, ownership status etc.

Most of the drawings, photographs, albums, interviews and miscellaneous documents are copyrighted under CC-BY NC SA 4.0 license and must be used under the terms mentioned in the deed. This means the user can share and remix the material but must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license and indicate any changes made. Lastly, you may not use the material for commercial purposes.

Digitized books are made public under  2 different licenses depending on their age and original publisher. Books published by a government body or  by private publishers and older than 60 years are by default in public domain as per the Indian copyright laws. Hence, they are covered under the ‘NO COPYRIGHT – NON-COMMERCIAL USE ONLY’ license. A few digitized books which are less than 60 years old and published by private publishers are attributed an IN COPYRIGHT – NON-COMMERCIAL USE PERMITTED license. Please refer to the respective terms for appropriate usage.

Anyone reusing PAHA's digitised items has to agree to the following principles:

  • Reuse the material only in line with the attributed license
  • Credit the creator, and archive by using the provided bibliographic citation
  • Ensure you consider and address any ethical and privacy concerns in using the material
  • Preserve and communicate all notices and licenses attached to the works – this will notify other users of any copyright or other restrictions and encourage the appropriate use of the resource.

Architectural designs depicted in drawings are the ownership of the architect/designer and cannot be copied in new constructions. Similarly, working drawings and structural drawings cannot be reused in actual constructions.
